RIP Aldo Andretti

2020 was a bad year for the Andretti family.

After losing John earlier in the year, now Aldo has passed. Aldo and Mario came to America together as 15 year old identical twin brothers and began racing in local tracks around Nazereth, PA soon after.

Success came quickly for Mario and Aldo who were inseparable always attending each other's races and working on each others car.

In this photo, the front row photo for the 1969 Indianapolis 500, Aldo substitutes for the badly burned Mario who's face was bandaged.

Pole sitter AJ Foyt in the red Gilmore Coyote would lead during the early stages, but Mario in Andy Granatelli's turbocharged Ford-V-8-powered Hawk III would take the lead with 116 laps to go and win his first and only Indy 500.

 RIP Aldo Andretti
