65 and Counting

I'm insanely jazzed over the coming United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas this year!! As of this writing, its only 64 days left between Me and Formula 1.

Just a quick note to those who don't know: Formula 1 (or F1) is the top echelon of automobile racing.

In America, we have a long tradition of automobile racing, and at the top of our racing series' are names like Nascar, Indy Car, ALMS (American LeMans Series), and of course, NHRA if you like the point and shoot cars.

Formula 1 is a designation of automobile racing which is the final step on the ladder of open-wheel racing in the world. Based in Europe, F1 has distinguished itself over the decades as the one series inwhich a team could spend as much money as it wanted, and go as fast as it wanted.

It hasn't been without controversy. Last year, while the population of the country of Bahrain was rising up against their despotic tyrant leaders, F1 convoyed into town in their mega-zillion fashion, paying no mind to the horrible conditions most common people had to put up with: the rich, elite paid for F1 and they got it! Many consider F1 to have blood on their hands for staging the race.

In Europe, there are several more elite racing series', namely the LeMans Endurance Series and the German Touring Car Championship which has several former F1 driver competing.

Come November, late in the season, the world will turn its attention to Austin, where the USGP will probably play a crucial deciding factor to the championship. Will it be Alonso? Vettel? Hamilton?

Lets hoist one to the professional racer, who puts his life on the line each lap! How many other 'sports' can say that!
