Electric racing cars are here!

FIA, the governing body of Formula 1 and other racing series has ushered in the next competitive spec racing series: Formula E, the all electric open-wheel racing series.

Technical specifications are from the designers and builders, of which there are several:
McLaren Electronic Technologies has provided the 26kg (56lb.) electric motors. Spark Racing Technologies has partnered with renown manufacturer Dallara to provide the chassis. This year, Michelin was announced as the tyre supplier and Renault was announced as a partner of Spark to move forward. The all-important battery design was given to Williams Advanced Engineering, part of the Williams Group of which Williams F1 belongs.

The following is a list of the ten teams that will make up the inaugural season of Formula E:

Drayson Racing- Lord Paul Drayson is entering F/e with much research and development with Drayson Racing Technologies, an accomplished racing team with experience launching electronic performance vehicles.

Bourdais will pilot Dragon's F/e sled, though he's signed with rival Indycar team KV Racing for the 2014 Indycar season.

“... Obviously, Jay released that they will race in Formula E, so I will race for him in that series next year, except for any races where there are Indy Car conflicts; so I will stay connected with Dragon and I think it's a really cool chance to support something new the FIA is trying with electric cars,” Bourdais revealed. “We'll keep a relationship there, and this is thanks to both teams having flexibility for me to do the Indycar championship and also Formula E.”.
